This pickup is a pressure zone mic or pzm. This unique type of microphone can handle higher sound levels with more isolation than a traditional microphone.   It attaches using putty (which will not hurt the finish of your instrument). Like a traditional microphone, the placement of the pickup on the instrument drastically changes the sound.
